The Iron Pigs went deep against Austin Voth twice while the Chiefs’ struggles in the clutch continued in a 5-1 loss. Starter and loser Voth allowed four runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out six over six innings. Syracuse tallied nine hits but went just 2-for-12 with RISP and hit into three double plays. Pedro Severino and Caleb Ramsey both went 2-for-3 with a walk with Severino scoring the lone Chiefs run. You’ll be shocked (no, you won’t) to learn Trea Turner was named I.L. Player of the Week for April 7-17.

Four runs in the bottom of the first? Pretty good. Eight runs given back in the top of the 2nd? Not so good. Harrisburg gave up double digits in the run column for the second straight game with a 12-5 loss to Altoona. Austen Williams took the brunt of the beating, charged with seven runs on five hits and a walk over an inning and 2/3rds to lose for the second time in as many starts. The Sens managed five runs on just five hits (four singles and a double) and two walks, but no batter reached base or scored more than once.

None of the Hillcats walked up to U2 or Thin Lizzy, but there was a whole lot of doublin’ last night at the Pfitz as the Hillcats outslugged the P-Nats, 9-6. Eight of Lynchburg’s 12 hits were two-baggers and all were hit hard. Philips Valdez was teed up for six of them and ten hits total over four and 2/3rds for the loss. He let in seven runs, walked two, hit two, and struck out five. Potomac took advantage of ten free passes to score six runs on just eight hits, highlighted by Andrew Stevenson’s three-run triple in the 4th.

Hagerstown rallied for three in the 5th and one in the 6th and held on for 4-3 win over Lakewood. Andrew Lee finally got a “W” to show for his efforts, which was five innings of two-run ball on six hits and a walk with two whiffs. Mariano Rivera III walked three over two scoreless innings for the hold while Ronald Pena closed out the game with two innings pitched and a run given up on a solo HR in the 8th for the save. Cody Dent tripled in two and scored on a Victor Robles RBI single to highlight the 5th while Rhett Wiseman was the sole Sun to reach base twice with a pair of singles. Roster moves: OF Telmito Agustin placed on the 7-Day DL; IF Austin Davidson reassigned from XST. Agustin was apparently injured while stealing 2nd in Sunday’s loss to Delmarva.
